Iran stood third at the 28th International Olympiad in Informatics that concluded on August 23 in Kazan, Russia, after bagging two gold and two silver medals.

The US and China came first and second respectively at the event that hosted participants from 81 countries, ISNA reported.

The IOI is one of five international science Olympiads. Its primary goal is to stimulate interest in informatics and information technology. Another important goal is to bring together exceptionally talented pupils from across continents and to have them share scientific and cultural experiences.

The IOI is organized annually in and by one of the participating countries. Cultural and recreational events are organized on the periphery.

The next round of Informatics Olympiad will be held in Tehran from July 28-August 4, 2017.
