The Health Ministry is liaising with Tehran University of Medical Sciences to sign a memorandum of understanding to train surgeons from Afghanistan in liver transplant, according to deputy health minister Dr. Iraj Harirchi. “Given that we have a large number of Afghan patients who travel to Iran to undergo transplants, liver transplant in particular, we have decided to hold educational and training courses for physicians from the neighboring country,” he said at a press conference on the occasion of Physician’s Day (August 22) in Tehran.

The plan is in the preliminary stages and the executive details of are being worked out before signing a MoU, likely by the end of the current Iranian year in March 2017.
