A judicial committee has been formed and tasked with reviewing and making necessary revisions to the current law on drug-related crimes, said Prosecutor General Mohammad Jaafar Montazeri on Monday. “A meeting of the committee comprising members from pertinent executive organizations, prosecutors, the Law Enforcement Forces, and the Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli was recently held to discuss the issue,” he said, IRNA reported. Repealing the death penalty as a punishment for drug-related crimes is under the consideration by the Majlis Judicial and Legal Affairs Commission, which is planning to pursue the matter to withdraw capital punishment from the anti-narcotics law in the parliament that convened on May 28.
