In a surprise raid by Tehran police, 53 criminals including purse snatchers, muggers, sexual offenders and conmen who faked documents and certificates were arrested. Brigadier General Hussein Sajedinia, police chief said the raid was conducted in a coordinated manner by their officers on different crime spots, ISNA reported.
He said the crackdown which started at 4 am on Sunday went on till noon. All the arrested will soon be taken to court to stand trial. Sajedinia added most of the arrested have previous criminal records and asked the judicial officials to impose tougher penalty on the offenders.
