A majority of medical errors in Iran occur in the field of gynecology. In the last fiscal year that ended in March, 5,600 medical errors were made by obstetricians and gynecologists, an increase by 11% over the previous year, said Dr Alireza Zali, president of the Medical Council of Iran, on the sidelines of the 7th National Conference on Medical Error Prevention held Wednesday, IRNA reported. From among the errors, 60% are related to surgeries and 40% are related to administering wrong medications, and in provision of care services. On average 5,000 medical error litigations are referred to the courts annually.
