Iranian neonates consume almost 37 million cans of infant formula, all produced locally, said director of quality control for natural and traditional foods and supplements at the Food and Drug Administration. “As of March 2013, import of baby formula has been prohibited,” said Dr. Amirhossein Jamshidi, IRNA reported. He said there are four major formula producers in the country and they meet the national demand for infant food. The annual production capacity for formula is 80 million cans, and the surplus is exported. All brands of formula available at pharmacies meet the FDA health standards.
