Two consignments of 4,000 kg narcotics were recently seized in the southern province of Kerman, said Dadkhoda Salari, the provincial prosecutor general. “The drug traffickers were moving the narcotics from the neighboring province of Sistan-Baluchestan into Kerman,” quoted him as saying. During the operations, 9 members of the drug gang were arrested.  The four tons of illicit drugs seized included 4,161 kg of opium, 21 kg of morphine and 10 kg of heroin. Iran, which shares a 900km common border with Afghanistan, is often used as the main conduit for smuggling drugs from the neighboring war-ravaged country to markets in Europe and beyond.
