The Tehran Municipality is tracking and rounding off refugee beggars from the capital’s street, said the social deputy at Tehran’s District 17 Municipality on Wednesday.

“So far 600 foreign beggars seeking alms on the streets have been identified and rounded up,” Aqil Mansouri told IRNA. They are mostly from Afghanistan and Pakistan. The first phase of the plan took place August 6-8.

“The increasing number of these people on the streets tarnishes the image of the city and the TM is trying to reduce the number of beggars and control ensuing social harm,” Mansouri noted.

The detainees will be sent to the municipal district’s rehabilitation centers for deaddiction and psychological and mental recovery.
