The Education Ministry’s budget for the current fiscal year that started in March is $8.7 billion, up 15% over the previous year, said First Vice President Ishaq Jahangiri, at the opening ceremony of the 33rd meeting of heads of education departments from across the country Monday.

Of this amount, $1.3 billion is “for unpaid pensions of retired teachers,” he said, IRNA reported.

Also, $1 billion has been earmarked for salary increases under the evaluation system for teachers.

Full-time teachers are ranked in four categories: basic, senior, best and superlative, entitling them to 15%, 25%, 35% and 50% salary hike respectively.
