A senior official at the Iran Drug Control Headquarters has called for more intensive anti-narcotics programs with the focus on prevention. “Addiction treatment services cost 15 times more than preventive programs, and we need to focus our efforts in the latter area,” said Parviz Afshar, IDCH spokesman and deputy for demand reduction and public participation, IRNA reported. Women as mothers can play a great role in controlling and preventing addiction among their children, he said, and called for taking advantage of the cyberspace, NGOs, and student unions and socio-cultural associations to tackle the social ill.
