One Killed in Ardabil Quake

One person was killed and two injured in an earthquake that shook the border town of Parsabad in Iran’s Ardabil Province, news outlets reported Monday. The quake originated in Imishli, the capital of Imishli Rayon Province in the neighboring Republic of Azerbaijan, and measured 5.2 degrees on the Richter scale. It occurred at 9 am, ILNA reported. Dilapidated buildings in Parsabad were damaged and the false ceilings in the provincial governorate office also collapsed. Iran is prone to frequent earthquakes. The deadliest quake was in June 1990 and measured 7.7 on the Richter scale when 37,000 people were killed in the northwestern provinces of Gilan and Zanjan.
