Identifying Fake Products Identifying Fake Products

A protocol to detect spurious lemon and lime products is under review by the Food and Drug Administration, said Masumeh Taklou, an official in the FDA’s Food and Beverage Office. “Currently, we are collecting samples from all kinds of lemons and limes cultivated in different parts of the country including Minab in Hormozgan and Jahrom in Fars provinces. We will test the samples to see if they are natural or not,” IRNA quoted her as saying. Due to a specific substance in natural lemon juice it was possible to distinguish it from spurious juice. This substance was earlier also used to identify fake lime juice in the market. However, with even a single drop of the substance in fake lemon juice, the testing devices are unable to detect their spurious nature.
