The first specialized Geriatric Medical Center was inaugurated at the Hefdah-e-Shahrivar Hospital in Mashhad, Khorasan Razavi Province on Thursday. “The Social Security Organization (which owns the hospital), has plans to improve services for the elderly population in cultural, social, and medical areas. The newly-opened center is being piloted in the province,” said Dr. Mahdi Derakhshan, deputy head of the SSO for medicine and treatment. The center’s main aim is to address health issues of seniors, and provide regular health and hygiene care for them under the coverage of SSO insurance, IRNA reported. According to Derakhshani, a second trial run will take place in Isfahan Province, once the first phase is completed in Khorasan Razavi in three months. Such centers will be extended to all SSO hospitals gradually.
