A political and international affairs committee will be set up in the women’s faction of the 10th Majlis (parliament), said lawmaker Parvaneh Salahshoori, on Tuesday.
“The committee will facilitate and provide for a bigger and more active presence and role of women on the international scene,” she said at a meeting between the Vice President for Women and Family Affairs Shahindokht Molaverdi and members of the women’s faction, IRNA reported.
The meeting also discussed the vice presidency’s and the faction’s programs in the fifth and sixth five-year development plans, with a particular focus on social ills. There are 17 women in the 290-member legislature that convened on May 28.
