Borujen, Bojnord Jolted

Two earthquakes measuring 4.3 and 4.2 on the Richter scales rocked Borujen County in Chaharmahal-Bakhtiari Province and Bojnord, the capital of North Khorasan Province on Tuesday. There are no reports of casualties, and minor damages were seen to building in the areas, IRNA reported. Since Thursday there have been eight aftershocks in Bojnord. Iran sits astride several major seismic faults, and is prone to frequent earthquakes, many of which have been devastating. The worst in recent times hit Bam in Kerman Province in December 2003, killing 31,000 people - about a quarter of its population - and destroying the city’s ancient mud-built citadel.
