Given the increased risk of dust storms in the middle of summer in Tehran, emergency centers as well as hospitals in the capital are ready to provide essential services in contingencies, said Dr Khosrow Sadeq Niyat, head of the Environment Health Office at the Health Ministry.
“Fine particles in the air during dust storms lead to their inevitable inhalation,” ISNA quoted him as saying.
He urged citizens in the four provinces of Khuzestan, Ilam, Kermanshah and Bushehr to avoid going out during dust storms.
The best strategy to prevent exposure to the fine particles is to stay indoors when air pollution reaches hazardous levels or by wearing masks, he added.
The storms usually originate in Iraq and Saudi Arabia.
