The average life expectancy at birth in Iran has increased to 80 for women, and 76.5 for men, said deputy health minister for research and technology. Life expectancy at birth in 2004 was 71.2 for females and 68.7 for males, said Reza Malekzadeh, IRNA reported. The national average life expectancy is higher than the global average of 71.0 years (73.5 years for females and 68.5 years for males). Malekzadeh also noted that the average growth in height and reduction in anemia also saw an improvement over the period.
