Over 10,000 people who acquired literacy in the past academic year (September 2015 – June 2016) through the Literacy Movement Organization received cash incentives on Monday. At a ceremony attended by Education Minister Ali Aghar Fani, the cash rewards of 1.34 million rials ($40) each were deposited for 10,395 LMO students who passed their final exams. Established in 1984, the LMO was created to combat the high rate of national illiteracy. Its main functions include the provision of adult education and education for children outside the formal education system, training instructors, promoting cultural awareness and attracting dropouts.
