An agreement by the Iran Prisons Organization (IPO) has been drafted to transfer the Evin Prison to the Tehran Municipality (TM) for converting the premises into a park, said Asghar Jahangir, head of the IPO. The prison, covering 43 hectares is presently located in the posh northern part of Tehran. The details, the dates and the deadline for shifting the prison have been determined in the draft MoU, he said, Mehr News Agency reported. “We have sent the draft to the TM and are awaiting the Tehran Mayor’s opinion in this regard.” The prison complex is planned to be relocated to a place outside the municipal limits, he added.
