A team from the Iranian Red Crescent Society rescued a German mountaineer who plummeted several meters down after losing his balance at a height of 4,700 meters on Mount Damavand in Mazandaran Province.

The accident happened in the early hours of Tuesday morning, news outlets reported.

“The sixty-year-old was with a fellow German on the expedition along with 15 other climbers and led by a local guide,” Jamshid Nikzad, head of Amol County IRCS told IRNA.

It took the rescue team six hours to reach the injured climber and due to the harsh  weather conditions and lack of direct access to the area, a chopper couldn’t be used in the rescue operations.

“The climber suffered facial injuries as well as a broken arm and a leg as a result of the fall, but was immediately taken to the nearest hospital,” Nikzad said.
