Congenital disorders can be detected before birth through prenatal diagnosis, said the secretary of the 15th International Congress of Obstetrics and Gynecology. “These disorders include defects in the heart, central nervous system, kidneys and facial parts,” said Dr. Vajiheh Marsoosi, ISNA reported. Around 1-2% of children are born with some kind of birth defect. Early diagnosis, particularly before the 19th week of pregnancy can help prevent defective births as congenital disorders in children impose a heavy financial and psychological burden on parents, she noted. The conference will be held October 5-8 at Razi Conference Hall, Tehran University of Medical Sciences.
