United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi said the UNHCR is planning to host a quadrilateral meeting on Afghan refugee challenges. The meeting will review the problems and propose solutions.  Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan and the European Union will attend, he told IRNA on Tuesday in Kabul.

“The existing predicament should be solved through dialogue between Afghan officials and the nations that have received the highest number of the refugees” and still continue to host them, Grandi said.

Coinciding with the World Refugee Day on June 20, Grandi travelled to Afghanistan and met with top officials including President Ashraf Ghani.

Later he told a press conference that the UN refugee agency plans to draw the attention of global community to the issue of Afghan refugees.

Insecurity and unemployment in their homeland has driven about seven million Afghans across the world, with nearly three million in Pakistan and Iran each, and the rest in European countries.
