Torrential rains in the northwestern province of East Azarbaijan that started on Saturday claimed two lives and caused flooding in various cities of the province, news outlets reported Sunday morning. Director General of the provincial governorate’s crisis management department said the rainfall caused two deaths in Mianeh County. Some 300 livestock also perished. Landslides and overflowing streams have closed the road running between Mianeh and Miandoab County in West Azarbaijan. “So far, five villages and 545 people have been covered by relief services, and rain water from 107 residential units has been flushed out,” said Seyed Morteza Mostafavi, spokesperson for Relief and Rescue Operations at the Iranian Red Crescent Society. Twelve teams of 60 people are on duty across the province and relief operations are continuing, ILNA reported.
