Three international specialists are visiting Iran to provide advanced medical services to war veterans. Prof. Walter Stummer, neurosurgeon from Germany, Prof. Stephen Anthony Wolfe, plastic and reconstructive surgeon from the US, and Prof. Javad Parvizi, orthopedic surgeon specializing in pelvis, hip, and knee reconstruction will visit Iran in September, according to Iraj Arabi, director general of Bonyad Shahid (Foundation of Martyrs and Veterans Affairs). “Inviting distinguished specialists from across the world is one of the programs on the Health Ministry’s agenda in cooperation with the foundation to help war veterans and their families,” he said, IRNA reported. There are 546,108 war veterans suffering from mild to severe injuries sustained during the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war in which a million people died on both sides.
