In a meeting between President of the Pontifical Council for the Family Archbishop Vincenzo Paglia and Head of Imam Khomeini Relief Committee Parviz Fattah on Wednesday, the two sides discussed the universal importance of altruism and reaching out to the poor. “Working to alleviate the status of the poor has no limitations; Vatican churches help the poor across 350 cities in the world regardless of their religion,” Paglia was quoted by IRNA as saying. Pointing to the historical ties as well as religious commonalities between Iran and the Vatican, Fattah called for enhancement of bilateral cooperation between the two states, saying that “boosting ties with the Vatican is on the government’s agenda.” Paglia arrived on Sunday in Iran on an official visit and met with Vice-President for Women and Family Affairs Shahindokth Molaverdi and other officials and activists working for women’s issues and family affairs.
