Since February, a new method to combat Tehran’s rodent menace is being implemented in the capital which is expected to significantly decrease the rat population, said Reza Qadimi, head of Tehran Municipality’s Organizing Industries and Occupations Office. Stating that it is the first time the method has been launched for rat control in the country, he said, “A special kind of foam is injected to seal holes in gutters to restrict the rodents’ access to sources of food,” Alef News Agency quoted him as saying. The foam has durability of up to 20 years, he added. Streets with the highest rat population include the routes between Rah-Ahan Sq. and Vanak Sq., Azadi Sq. and Imam Hossein Sq., Sepah Sq. and Shoush Sq., Tajrish Sq. and Seyed Khandan Bridge, and also Sattarkhan, Keshavarz and Shadmehr streets.
