Given the capital city’s existing infrastructure, including transport and housing, its optimal population should be at least 70% less than the current 8 million, according to the results of a study sent to the International Conference on Urban Economics, organized recently by the Iran Urban Economics Scientific Association. The figures should be 69%, 68%, 67% and 56% for Mashahd, Isfahan, Ahvaz and Shiraz, respectively, Alef News Agency reported. Also based on the study, people will continue to migrate to Tehran till its population reaches 11.5 million. Only after that will the process of migration gradually reduce, the research says.
