A Disaster and Emergency Health Research Center will be established at Tehran’s University of Social Welfare and Rehabilitation Sciences, after getting the go-ahead from Health Minister Hassan Qazizadeh Hashemi.
The center aims to promote a proactive approach to disaster risk reduction among the general population and health facilities in contingencies. It will also facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration among different fields of science and practice, reports ISNA.
The focus of the research programs are on disaster metrics and epidemiology, emergency management, community-based disaster risk management, injury epidemiology, integration of disaster risk management and primary health care, and disaster risk assessment in hospitals and primary health care centers. The decision to found the center was made at the 253rd session of the Development Council of Universities in May.
