The number of workplace accidents leading to fatalities has seen a 37% reduction in the first three months of the current Iranian year that began in March, compared with the same period last year, said a report by the Tehran Legal Medicine Organization.

“All those who lost their lives at the workplace were men,” said director general Masoud Qaderi Pasha. Falling from heights while working, getting hit by a falling object or burn injuries or asphyxiation in a fire were the main causes of deaths, he said, the Persian language daily ‘Shahrvand’ reported.

Last year, 1,500 people lost their lives to job-related accidents. Most of the deaths are in the construction sector. The highest percentage of fatalities occured in the age group 25-34 years.
