Teaching a second language is prohibited in both private and public preschools across the country, said Marzieh Gard, deputy education minister and head of Private Schools Organization affiliated to the Education Ministry. “The ministry has never approved teaching a foreign language among preschoolers as it is too early for learning a new language, and several preschools have faced legal action for violating the rule,” said Gard, ISNA reported. English, Arabic, French, Italian, and German are legally offered at foreign language academies and institutions across the country for all age groups. There are 500,000 children aged 5-6 years in preschools across the country.
