In the first quarter of the current year that started on March 20, around 90 new surveillance cameras will be installed to monitor the free flow of traffic and register violations on major roadways, said Davoud Keshavarzian, deputy minister of roads and urban development. “With the installation of the modern gadgets, the total number of traffic cameras will increase to 850,” IRNA quoted him as saying. The traffic mortality rate in Iran is 1 death per 20 injuries, while the figure is 1 per 40 globally. Annually, 28,000 people die in road mishaps in Iran.
