A member of the Tehran City Council (TCC) put forth a proposal on Sunday to rename a street in Tehran after the late world boxing legend Muhammad Ali Clay.

“Muhammad Ali Clay was the symbol of resistance against racism and US imperialistic policies in the Vietnam War,” said Eqbal Shakeri, head of the council’s Transportation Committee, at the TCC’s 264th session, IRNA reported. The proposal is being reviewed by the councilors. Former world heavyweight boxing champion Muhammad Ali died of respiratory disease on June 4 at the age of 74. He had long suffered from Parkinson’s disease.
