The managing director of Tehran Municipality’s Parks and Green Spaces said several measures have been undertaken for the conservation and management of trees on Vali-e-Asr Street.

“Given their age, the trees on Vali-e-Asr are among the most valuable natural wealth of Tehran city; therefore, steps to conserve the trees include pests and disease control, fertilization, and restoring damaged trees,” Mohammad Mokhtari said.

Also for the conservation of the trees and to free up space for pedestrians, buildings which are located along Vali-e-Asr should be moved back by 3 meters, he said, reports Mehr News agency.

 Green Texture

The Tehran Municipality (TM) has recently designed a plan to enrich the green texture of the city. The scheme envisages planting of 500 Platanus orientalis (Chenar) trees 15 to 20 years old, selected from among the city gardens. The trees will be moved and planted along the Vali-e-Asr Street.

Based on the TM plan, every year in the middle of summer, suitable areas for planting saplings and also the types of seedlings which are consistent with the capital’s climate, are determined.

This year the plan has been implemented across the city and more than 3 million seedlings are to be planted across the capital’s streets. The residents will also be encouraged to plant saplings in their gardens, in the second half of the calendar year (started March 21). “Under the plan, choosing healthy seedlings which are consistent with Tehran climate is very important,” Mokhtari stressed.
