About 10 years ago, the world’s fourth successful transplant of stem cells for treatment of ‘aplastic anemia’ was conducted in Iran, Isfahan Province on a 7-year-old boy, Karen Shivaee. “Karen has recovered from the disease and is in good health at present,” Majid Kouhi Esfehani, executive manager of Isfahan’s Royan Stem Cell Bank told IRNA on Sunday. He urged all parents to store samples of their babies’ umbilical cord blood in Royan’s stem cells banks  and said “storage of stem cells is a valuable investment.” Aplastic anemia is a condition that occurs when the body stops producing enough new blood cells.
