The amount of money spent annually on seeking treatment for tobacco-related maladies is twice the amount spent on tobacco products, said Mohammad Esmaeil Afshar, member on the board of directors at the Iranian Anti-Tobacco Association. “Annually, 300 trillion rials ($8.6 billion) goes up in smoke, while twice that amount is spent on treatment of diseases resulting from smoking,” he said, IRNA reported. Smoking is known to be the cause of 85 different ailments.
