Tuesday's earthquake measuring 4.8 degrees on the Richter scale and its aftershocks over the following days damaged several residential units in North Khorasan Province. Hussein Azimi, general director of the provincial Crisis Management Department told IRNA on Thursday that Hesar-e Garmkhan town in Bojnurd County was severely damaged. Iran sits astride several major seismic faults and is frequently rattled by earthquakes. The deadliest quake in the country was in June 1990 in the northwestern provinces of Gilan and Zanjan measuring 7.7 on the Richter scale. About 37,000 people were killed and more than 100,000 injured.
