The 69th World Health Assembly (WHA), the main decision-making body of the World Health Organization (WHO), opened in Geneva on Monday. Health Minister Hassan Qazizadeh Hashemi delivered a speech on the Sustainable Development Goals. He elucidated the 39 articles of this year’s statement by the ministers of health of the 120-nation Non-Aligned Movement chaired by the Islamic Republic. Hashemi also met with his counterparts from Finland, Germany and Switzerland, and signed a memorandum of understanding with Austria, IRNA reported. Preventing multinational corporations from making inroads in “managing” the World Health Organization, provision of easy and inexpensive access to medicine for people in every part of the world, the refugee crisis particularly in the Middle East, and transfer of technology for addressing environmental challenges were among other subjects discussed by the attendees.
