Four research centers under the auspices of the Health Ministry have been certified by the Food and Drug Administration for stem cell production, said FDA Head Rasoul Dinarvand. “The FDA has devised a new set of principles and environmental standards for generating stem cells and derivative products on par with global benchmarks as Iran has became a member of various international protocols regarding the practice, and four research centers have got the accreditations,” he said at the opening ceremony of the First National Festival and International Congress on Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine (May 19-21) at Tehran’s Rayzan International Conference Center. “By the end of the current Iranian year in March 2017, the first stem cell products for medical use will be authorized to enter the market,” Dinarvand added, IRNA reported. The standards concern physical conditions of the place for stem cell production including sanitation and facilities used.
