Fighting Illicit Drugs

Iran is spearheading the international anti-narcotics war by confiscating 85% of contraband opium and 35% of heroin during its several large-scale operations against illicit drug trade, said deputy head of Iran Drug Control Headquarters Alireza Jazini, on Wednesday. “Almost 70 tons of drugs were seized since the beginning of the current Iranian year that started in March,” he said at the signing ceremony of an MoU with Tehran’s University of Applied Science and Technology, aimed at implementing programs to prevent social maladies, IRNA reported. Iran has also lost 3,770 members of its police forces in its fight against illicit drug in the past three decades. Jazini announced that a university course on preventing addiction has been approved by the Science Ministry at both undergraduate and graduate levels from the next academic year.
