The 14th International Exhibition of Flowers, Plants, Park Equipment and Related Industries is underway at the Tehran Municipality’s Specialized Exhibition Center at Goft-o-Goo Park in Nasr neighborhood.
A total of 300 domestic and 30 international producers in the floral industry are attending the exhibition with a wide display of roses and bulbous flower cultivation, gardening and greenhouse equipment, and seeds and fertilizer production, said Mojtaba Abdollahi, Tehran’s deputy mayor for urban services at the opening ceremony on Monday, ISNA reported.
“The exhibition can help increase the country’s per capita consumption of flowers and plants,” he added.
Stating that the domestic floral sector has the capacity to produce more than 1,800 species of plants and flowers, he said the annual per capita consumption of cut-flowers is 10 in the country, while the figure is 150 in European countries.
By supporting producers “we can help address the unemployment problem and create thousands of job opportunities in the floriculture segment.”
Currently, 100,000 people are working in flowers and plants production centers across the country.
Among the participating countries are Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Turkey, China, Armenia, and South Korea. A number of educational workshops and brochures on plants and gardening are also being presented on the sidelines of the exhibition, which will run through May 14.
