An estimated 15% to 20% of newly-married couples have some kind of fertility problem, Mansureh Movahhedi, a board member of Tehran’s Tarbiat Modarres University said. “In 50% to 55% of the cases, the problem is only with men, while the global figure is 40%.” “Unhealthy lifestyle, including smoking, alcohol and drug abuse as well as emotional stress are the main causes for the rising levels of male infertility,” she said, Alef News Agency reported.

Further, 15% of the infertility cases are related to combined problems in both men and women; causes for 5% of the remaining cases are unknown.  The second International Congress of Reproductive Health organized by the Iran University of Medical Sciences and Iranian Society of Embryology & Reproductive Biology, will be held on May 18 at Razi International Conference Center.
