Support for the Terminally-Ill

Like in the previous year (ended March 19), this year 20,000 billion rials ($580 million) has been allocated to the Food and Drug Administration to offer financial support to patients suffering from incurable diseases including cancer, epidermolysis bullosa (EB), rheumatic diseases, congenital immune deficiency diseases, etc, said Rasoul Dinarvand, head of the FDA. Thanks to the Health Ministry’s reforms (launched in April 2014), at present cancer patients should pay only 6% share for treatment they receive in state-run hospitals, including chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgeries, IRNA reported. The Health Ministry’s budget for this fiscal year is 90,000 billion rials ($2.6 billion).
