Birth Rate Declines

The national birth rate that began to increase in 2012 (by 2.9% year-on-year) has taken a reverse, said Ali Akbar Mahzoon, head of the Population Information Office at the Civil Registration Organization. “The birth rate that increased by a record rate of 4.2% in 2014 compared to the year before, declined by 2.3% by the end of 2015,” he said ahead of National Population Day (May 31), the Persian language daily ‘Shahrvand’ reported. The day marks the anniversary of a set of general population policies laid down by the Leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei in 2014, to enhance population growth.
