DNA Database of Foreign Residents

Parliament has tasked the Justice Ministry to create a DNA database of all foreign residents in Iran in cooperation with the Law Enforcement Forces.

During an open session on Monday, lawmakers approved a bill that directs the two state bodies to prepare a comprehensive database of all foreigners living in the country in addition to the one for citizens, IRNA reported.

The executive bylaw of creating, maintaining, and updating the database has to be drawn up within six months from the passage of the bill. DNA fingerprinting or profiling helps early identification of individuals as well as forensic analysis in accidents or criminal investigations.
