Taxi passengers in Tehran can pay their fares using point of sale (POS) devices, under a pilot project launched by the Tehran Traffic and Transportation Organization.
“The plan will be implemented this year for taxis plying the most congested routes,” said Ali Asghar Afshar, head of District 7 Department of Tehran Taxi Management and Supervision Organization, ISNA reported. The trial run will study whether electronic payment is easy and congenial for both taxi drivers and passengers.
Most taxis in the capital will be equipped with a POS device in less than two years, it is said. City Bank (Bank Shahr) is expected to provide the devices and commuters can pay with their smart cards.
