Around 18,000 teachers will be employed in the new school year (starts September 23) with the aim to increase teacher-to-student ratio, said Ali Asghar Fani, education minister. In a message on the occasion of Teachers Week (started May 1) he hailed the “influential role of teachers” in educating and training a generation that is “insightful, self-confident, lively and hopeful,” IRNA reported. At present, there are 13 million students in the country, while the number of teachers stands at 650,000.
