Vitamin D Deficiency

While Iran is one of the countries with abundant sunshine, however, 70% to 80% of the people suffer from vitamin D deficiency, said Abolqasem Jazayeri, nutrition advisor to the health minister.

“The major source of vitamin D for children and adults is exposure to natural sunlight, while a few food items like fish oil also contain the vitamin,” IRNA quoted him as saying.  “Factors such as air pollution block the UVB rays from reaching us, and this is why Iranians, both men and women, are at risk of vitamin d deficiency,” he said, urging people to take vitamin D supplements if necessary.
