The elderly population in Iran will more than double within the next 30 years, said Health Minister Hassan Qazizadeh Hashemi.

“Currently, 8% of the 80 million population is over 60 years old and the figure will reach 20% by 2045. We need to prepare infrastructure and policies necessary to meet their needs,” he said addressing a meeting of health officials on Saturday, ILNA reported.

Stressing the necessity of providing financial, medical, and rehabilitation support for the future gray population, Hashemi urged all responsible bodies including the Health Ministry, State Welfare Organization and Ministry of Cooperatives, Labor, and Social Welfare, to cooperate in addressing the situation in a timely manner.
