Iran is among the top 15 knowledge-generating countries in treating immunodeficiency diseases, said Nima Rezaie, scientific secretary of the 8th International Conference of Immunodeficiency Disorders. “The Islamic Republic is a regional treatment hub for such diseases and is progressing along Japan in the field,” he said on the sidelines of the event, IRNA reported. Over 500 scientific articles in the field of immunodeficiency have been authored inside Iran and published in world-renowned journals. Roughly 300 kinds of immunodeficiency disorders in this field have been identified in the world including AIDS, cancers of the immune system, such as leukemia, immune-complex diseases, such as viral hepatitis, and multiple myeloma, a cancer of the plasma cells which produce antibodies. There are more than 2,000 immunodeficiency patients in Iran as per official statistics provided by hospitals. Organized by the Research Center for immunodeficiency Disorders (RCID) the meeting will be held April 23-24 at the Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS).
