Vice-President for Women and Family Affairs Shahindokht Molaverdi called for capacity building to empower women and highlighted women’s role in contributing to the country’s economic development. “Women account for half the country’s population and their immense potential should be harnessed to help meet the goals of Resistance Economy (a set of principles outlined by Leader Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei aimed at bolstering domestic production and cutting dependence on oil revenues) for prosperity and welfare of the nation,” she said Tuesday in a meeting with women active in economic fields in Karaj, Alborz Province, IRNA reported. Women have performed successfully in different arenas and contributed to the economic development, she said, and hoped that the government under President Hassan Rouhani will follow through its plans and slogans regarding the equality and participation of women in economic affairs.
